LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
The location of your session can add a whole lot of fun to your photos. The images will be focused on you, but a great background adds a ton of color, texture, and light!
If you would like me to capture you, your child, or your family in your element, I suggest a lifestyle photo session in your home, or somewhere that you frequent (favorite park, ice cream shop, library etc.)
If you prefer outdoor locations, what is your preference? Are you going for a more natural look? Beautiful open grass fields, a beach at sunset, or a dramatic wooded area. Maybe you prefer a more urban atmosphere… cool alleys, steel bridges & brick buildings may be more your style.
WHAT TO WEAR
There are no “rules” when it comes to what to wear for your session. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable, and like yourself.
If your dream family photos are soft and elegant, choose neutral colors with soft, flowing fabrics…. think creams, very soft pastels, oatmeals, light browns, tans, grays, & slate blues.
Want to showcase the fun & spunky side of your family? Choose coordinating colors (but not matchy, matchy) with bold accent colors, such as hues of gray with yellow or bright red accents. Adding fun accessories like scarves, headbands, hats, etc. can add a modern twist and sassy flair to your images.
SCHEDULING YOUR SESSION
If you’re scheduling an on-location session, the best lighting comes the two hours after sunrise and before sunset. For indoor lifestyle sessions, think about which room of the house you’d like to focus on. Now pay attention to when that room gets the most amount of light. That’s when you’ll want to schedule your session. Be certain not to schedule your photo session during your child’s regular nap or bedtime.
KIDS ARE THE BEST…
…they really are the best, BUT… let’s face it. Sometimes, they’re just not as cooperative as we’d like them to be. If you think reinforcements may be necessary, bring some of your child’s favorite items with you to the session. Small snacks, a favorite toy, maybe even a favorite blanket may just come in handy when your little one needs a little comfort.
